Is it the shape, the colors, the memories of childhood, the dreams of far away travel? My favorites are the older globes where the names of the countries match the geography lessons I had as a child. Plus I like the relief globes where you can feel the mountains.
These old books with the pale globe are gorgeous. Image: Baustien Vaucher
The photographer’s treatment of the bookcase in the Union School at Fort Christmas in Florida is striking. Do you like the old pencil sharpener hanging on the wall to the right of the bookcase? Image: Matthew Paulson
Toolboxes, guitars, and a globe. I wonder what’s in the toolboxes that affords them a portion of the valuable real estate on top of this childhood bookshelf. Image: Patrick Q

The globe with the color coordinated bookcase is very pretty, but I just had to share the broken shelf to the left. I’m always worried this is going to happen to my shelves. Although they aren’t glass, I see a few slightly bowed shelves among them and I wonder what would happen if the top shelf broke. Would it it would trigger a domino collapse effect all the way to the bottom shelf?
Don’t watch LusoBoy’s video if seeing books crumble to the floor makes you uncomfortable.
Getting back to globes….
No books in sight, but look at all the globes in this Barcelona globe shop. Image: Greg Robbins

I’ve always loved the big floor model globes. Oh and I have had shelves collapse. Remember in college when everyone had boards stacked on cinder blocks? It was those. Pure carnage.

Marti, I love the floor globes too. I picked up one last fall at one of those flea markets that are set up along 30 miles of highway out in the country. And it lights up:)
P.S. You gotta love that college cinder block look.
