I have thousands of books in the book barn and only one copy of a Unicorn Mystery Book Club edition.
The Unicorn Mystery Book Club had subscribers who received their four-in-one mysteries by mail during the years of 1945 to 1952. There are currently 65 Unicorn mysteries for sale on AbeBooks. By contrast, there are over 13,000 Reader’s Digest Condensed books for sale on the same venue. So I guess it’s not so unusual that I only have one copy in the barn.
These enticing titles – Wicked Water, The Cat Wears a Mask, The Innocent, and The Leaden Bubble – were published in 1949.
The copyright page has an unusual declaration; I guess to ensure the reader knows they received a fair value for their monthly subscription fee.
I found little information on the Unicorn Mystery Book Club, so if you know interesting tidbits such as how many subscribers they had or how much each book originally cost, please let me know.
